I’m a 34-year-old gal who spent the last 6 years struggling to find a cause for my chronic digestive issues. After years of trial and error diets, bad medical advice, ridiculous amounts of testing, and a host of alternative health approaches, I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance and a severe allergy to all cow products. Life Without Bread and Butter is my attempt to make sense of the chaos that comes with living gluten, dairy, and soy free.
Other personal fun-facts:
*I’ve been gluten and cow-product free for two years now. I avoid soy. In March, 2013, testing revealed that I was also intolerant to eggs. I believe in enemy food lists and update mine regularly.
*I love to read about the food industry, factory farms, organic &/or sustainable farming, and urban gardening. If I’m visiting your area, you bet I’ll be trying to locate the best farmers’ market.
*I’m a full-time Ph.D. student at a R1 university. I realized I was in denial about my serious digestive issues in the middle of a presentation on feminist theory and the body. It was the first and only time I have ever cried during an academic presentation, and I don’t regret one tear. Lucky for me, I had amazing classmates and a professor who supported me making the life changing health decisions that came out of that presentation.
*I love green olives.
*I’m married (known in posts as “C”). He hates olives.
